Over 300 000 passengers boarded South Africa’s first rapid rail transport link, the Gautrain last month - a 100 000 more than in its first month.
The 80-kilometre mass rapid transit railway system in Gauteng will link Johannesburg, Pretoria, and OR Tambo International Airport. As of 18 June 2010, the OR Tambo International Airport, Rhodesfield, Marlboro and Sandton stations were complete.
According to Gautrain media spokesperson Barbara Jansen, the positive numbers can largely be attributed to the recently staged FIFA World Cup, which attracted thousands of visitors from all over the world.
